A Waterside Restricted Zone will be in force during Wednesday 15 January 8am and 5pm during the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship visit to the Channel Berth in the Port of Newcastle.

The restricted zone extends up to 43 metres into the water from the berth and will be operational from when the vessel berths until the it departs the berth. Times may vary subject to the berthing and departure schedule of other ships.

All unauthorised vessels and persons must remain outside the zone which will be patrolled and identified at the berth by yellow buoys.

Any breach of the zone is an offence under the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003. The maximum penalty exceeds $5,000. Please note there is no public access to the Channel Berth.

Cruise ship viewing

The best vantage point to watch cruise ships enter or depart the Port is the Newcastle or Stockton Foreshore.

Viking Orion is due to enter the Port at approximately 7am. On departure, Celebrity Solstice will leave the berth and make its way to Nobbys Headland. It is expected to pass Queens Wharf at 5:15pm.

Listen out for the three gun salute from Fort Scratchley during the cruise ship’s departure. This is provided by the Port and is unique
to the Port of Newcastle.
