Port of Newcastle is pleased to announce the outcome of its 2020 sponsorship program, with funding and in-kind support provided to 12 local organisations.

The annual 2020 Sponsorship Program is a key component of the Port’s commitment to sustainability and being an active contributor to its local community.

Funding offered through the Community Sponsorship Program is in addition to the $1 million the Port provides annually through the Newcastle Port Community Contribution Fund, which is administered by the NSW Government.

Port of Newcastle’s Communications and Community Relations Manager, Sarah Kiely, said sustainability was at the core of the Port’s business strategy and culture.

“The ‘Your port, our community’ commitment is about ensuring the port and the communities surrounding it continue to thrive for generations to come,” Ms Kiely said.

“This round we were looking for projects that engaged the community with the harbour and the environmental wellbeing of its surrounds.

“Once again, we have uncovered a wide cross-section of causes and initiatives that are delivering exceptional value to our local community.”

The announcement follows the release of the Port’s inaugural Sustainability Report in June. Port of Newcastle also announced in July that it was one of seven Hunter institutions pursuing the adoption of the United Nations’ Sustainability Goals.
