  1. Craig Carmody

    Craig Carmody

    Chief Executive Officer

    Craig joined Port of Newcastle as Chief Executive Officer in August 2018, building on extensive experience spanning the transport, maritime and infrastructure sectors.

    From 2014 Craig was Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs at Svitzer, the towage services division of Maersk Group, where he was responsible for strategy, innovation and corporate affairs. While at Svitzer, Craig also led the regulatory affairs engagement with governments, port owners and port authorities. 

    Craig has held senior roles in the Australian Federal Government, serving as the Director of Policy in the Prime Minister's Office, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister and Senior Policy Advisor to Ministers for Infrastructure and Transport, and Workplace Relations and Employment. 

    He served 10 years in the Australian Army, including the Special Forces, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and holds post-graduate qualifications in public policy, business management and industrial and employee relations. 

  2. Ian Doherty

    Ian Doherty

    Executive Manager Customer & Strategic Development

    Ian's responsibilities include trade development, property development and management, strategic planning, trade analysis, marketing and planning.

    Ian has over 25 years of industrial, technical and commercial experience in the logistics, manufacturing, steel and chemical industries and has held senior management roles in publicly listed companies internationally. 

    Ian joined Port of Newcastle in June 2017 from LINX Cargo Care where he was the National Commercial Manager. Prior to that, Ian was Vice President of Business Development, Marketing and Sales for Koppers Carbon Chemicals. 

    His qualifications include Bachelor of Business (Management), Associate Diploma in Market Research and Certificate of Metallurgy. 

  3. Tanya McDonald

    Tanya McDonald

    Executive Manager Corporate Affairs

    Tanya joined the Port of Newcastle in September 2018 and is responsible for external communication, media, stakeholder, community and government relations.

    She has held senior executive roles in the Queensland and Commonwealth governments and in the private sector, with significant experience leading complex reforms, including building, education, infrastructure, industrial relations, resources, economic development and trade and transport.

    Prior to joining the Port of Newcastle, Tanya held the position of Executive Director, Strategy and Stakeholder Relations at the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.


  4. Keith Wilks

    Keith Wilks

    Executive Manager Marine & Operations

    Keith's responsibilities include wharf services, vessel scheduling, port cargo logistics, terminal operations, port security, emergency management, survey services, dredge operations and marine fleet management.

    Keith joined Newcastle Port Corporation in September 2010 as Port Services Manager. 

    His role at Port of Newcastle builds on his 28-year experience in the marine industry, including 10 years serving on Australian vessels in a multitude of trades for ANL, ASP Ship Management, Shell, TT line, and CSL.

    Keith has previously held port management roles at Svitzer (formerly Adsteam) at the Port of Newcastle and his qualifications include: Master (Unlimited) Certificate; Diploma of Applied Science (Nautical Science); and a Bachelor of Commerce.

  5. Jonathan Morris

    Jonathan Morris

    Executive Manager People, Safety & Environment

    Jonathan's responsibilities include Work Health & Safety, human resource strategy, industrial relations, recruitment, staff training and development, workers compensation and injury management. His portfolio also oversees environmental services and management.

    Jonathan joined the Port of Newcastle in August 2015.

    Prior to joining the Port, Jonathan held senior roles with Hunter Water Corporation, Raytheon Australia and Thiess.

    He holds an Honours degree in Economics and has a number of post graduate qualifications.

  6. Trent Gearside

    Trent Gearside

    Executive Manager Projects & Infrastructure

    Trent's responsibilities include project delivery and governance, infrastructure services and strategic projects.

    Trent joined the Port of Newcastle in October 2018 and has 17 years of experience in the ports and logistics industry, including 12 years leading asset development and management projects on both the contractor and client side.

    Prior to joining the Port of Newcastle, Trent held the role of Infrastructure Development Manager with Darwin Port, where he commissioned their Port Master Plan and delivered the new hardstand and refrigerated container facility.

    Trent holds degrees in Civil Engineering and Commerce from the University of Wollongong.
  7. Marie Omark

    Marie Omark

    Executive Manager Corporate Services

    Marie joined the Port of Newcastle in September 2018 and her responsibilities include administration and IT support services, office management, running of the CEO Office and Chief of Staff to the CEO.

    Prior to this role, Marie was the Head of Corporate Services at Svitzer, the towage services division of Maersk Group. 

    Marie previously worked in the Global Strategy & Corporate Finance Practice in McKinsey & Company.

    She holds a Master of Science degree in Strategy, Organisation & Leadership and a Master of International Management from Copenhagen Business School.
