    2. Grain Train entering

      1.25km long grain train arrives at Port of Newcastle

      The Port of Newcastle welcomed a record 1.25 km long grain train carrying 5,000 tonnes of wheat to the Newcastle Agri Terminal last night.

      The Port is well positioned to support the growth of NSW's grain trade, with plenty of capacity in the rail networks to the Port, multiple grain terminals for ship loading and a shipping channel that can handle double the Port's current trade.

      Pacific Jewel Maiden Voyage

      Port of Newcastle welcomed the arrival of P&O's Pacific Jewel on its maiden voyage to the Port of Newcastle on Tuesday 24 November.

      Port of Newcastle's CEO, Geoff Crowe, presented a plaque to the vessel's captain, Capt. Gavin Pears, to mark the occasion.

      The Pacific Jewel will depart the Channel Berth at 6.00pm, and will receive a three-gun salute from Fort Scratchley at approximately 6.15pm. The best vantage point to view the ship's departure is the Newcastle or Stockton Foreshore.

      Hunter First Port Tour

      Port of Newcastle was pleased to provide a port tour for Hunter First members, a group of business leaders facilitated by the Hunter Business Chamber, on 23 November.

      The Hunter Business Chamber event provided a unique waterside view of port activity, illustrating the port's contribution to the region's economy and its potential for growth. Commentary was provided by Port of Newcastle's CEO, Geoff Crowe, on board the Nova Cruises vessel MV Princess.

      Diverse trade: Glass, destined for recycling in South Australia, is loaded onto the Toucan Arrow at the Kooragang 3 berth.

    6. Navigation buoy drifting south along the coastline

      5 November 2015

      Port of Newcastle asks the surfing and fishing community to look out for a navigation buoy which came adrift off Stockton today.

      The buoy is drifting south along the coastline and was last sighted off Bar Beach.

      The red and black buoy is made of steel and weighs approximately 15 tonnes. As it may still have a 60 metre chain attached, community members are asked to maintain a safe distance.

      The buoy is fitted with a solar powered white flashing light.

      Port of Newcastle will continue to monitor the buoy and will attempt to recover it tomorrow when it approaches the shore.

    7. The Port welcomes new cruise ships to Newcastle

      The Port of Newcastle's 2015-16 cruise season is set to commence with the 'double-header' visits by the Pacific Dawn and the Pacific Jewel on 23 and 24 November 2015.

      Newcastle will welcome 11 cruise ship visits and nearly 18,000 passengers between November 2015 and May 2016. 

      Highlights of the 2015-16 season include five maiden visits and the return of the high-end luxurious cruise line, Silversea.
