Teaming Up for CanTeen

Date: 10 May 2017

The annual NewRun event was held in Newcastle on Sunday 2nd April, and Port of Newcastle teamed up to enter and raise funds for the event's chosen charity, CanTeen.

11 staff members signed up to enter the team event and following three weeks of fundraising, reached an impressive total of $6,095 via the Port's MyCause page. In support of the team's efforts, Port of Newcastle contributed an additional $5,000 to CanTeen.

Port of Newcastle CEO, Geoff Crowe, said he was proud of the team's effort in getting behind CanTeen, whether they were running, walking or making a donation to the worthy cause.

"It was great to see the fundraising total continuing to rise in the days leading up to the fun run. Congratulations to the team members that initiated the partnership with CanTeen and for the support that was offered from around the Port community to help us achieve this impressive $11,095 total."

Sheree, Angie and CanTeen member Sam thanked Port of Newcastle for their support.

"We are over the moon with the effort put in by Port of Newcastle. The funding raised will enable 35 young people to attend a 'Good Grief' 3 day Program that will be held in July."

CanTeen helps young people from 12-25 to cope with cancer and allows them to connect with other young people in the same boat.
