Port of Newcastle Executive Leadership Team

  1. Geoff Crowe

    Geoff Crowe

    Chief Executive Officer

    Geoff joined Port of Newcastle as Chief Executive Officer in July 2015. He has extensive experience in the Hunter region's coal mining sector, having held leadership roles with Port Waratah Coal Services, the operator of two coal terminals within the port, and a number of mining companies. 

    Geoff has also served as a Director of the Hunter Valley Coal Chain Coordinator.  He is currently a Director of the Hunter Business Chamber and Chair of the University of Newcastle Faculty of Business and Law Advisory Board.

    He leads an experienced, local team who deliver a range of services for the port, including vessel scheduling, dredging and survey, trade and business development, and the management of 792 hectares of port land.

    As a Novocastrian, Geoff has a special interest in seeing the port continue to improve its efficiency with existing trades, including coal, and to grow and attract new trades, recognising that the port contributes to the prosperity of the Hunter region.

  2. Simon Gelder

    Simon Gelder

    Chief Financial Officer

    Simon's responsibilities include financial planning and control, shareholder and banking relations and information management.

    Simon joined Port of Newcastle as Chief Financial Officer in November 2014. He has extensive experience in senior finance, commercial and strategic development roles within the rail, engineering, shipping, transport and mining sectors. His qualifications include: Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting); and Certified Practising Accountant.

  3. Michael Dowzer

    Michael Dowzer

    Executive Manager Corporate Services
    General Counsel and Company Secretary

    Michael is responsible for legal services, compliance management and corporate governance. 

    Michael joined Port of Newcastle following 10 years with Newcastle Port Corporation (NPC) in a number of legal governance and strategic planning roles with particular focus on the coal export business. Prior to joining NPC, Michael worked in private legal practice.

  4. Keith Wilks

    Keith Wilks

    Executive Manager Operations & Infrastructure

    Keith's responsibilities include infrastructure services, wharf services, vessel scheduling, dredge operations, port security and survey services.

    Keith has 24 years experience in the marine industry, including 10 years serving on Australian vessels in multiple trades for ANL, ASP Ship Management, Shell, TT line, and CSL. Keith joined Newcastle Port Corporation in September 2010 as Port Services Manager. He previously held port management roles at Svitzer (formerly Adsteam) at the Port of Newcastle, from 2005 to 2010. His qualifications include: Master (Unlimited) Certificate;  Diploma of Applied Science (Nautical Science); and a Bachelor of Commerce.

  5. Ian Doherty

    Ian Doherty

    Executive Manager Trade & Business Development

    Ian's responsibilities include trade development, property development, trade analysis and cruise development.

    Ian has over 25 years of industrial, technical and commercial experience in the logistics, manufacturing, steel and chemical industries and has held senior management roles in publicly listed companies internationally. 

    Ian joined Port of Newcastle in June 2017 from LINX Cargo Care where he was the National Commercial Manager. Prior to that, Ian was Vice President of Business Development, Marketing and Sales for Koppers Carbon Chemicals. 

    His qualifications include Bachelor of Business (Management), Associate Diploma in Market Research and Certificate of Metallurgy. 

  6. Jonathan Morris

    Jonathan Morris

    Executive Manager People & Safety

    Jonathan's responsibilities include Work Health & Safety, human resource strategy, industrial relations, recruitment, staff training and development, payroll, workers compensation and injury management.

    Jonathan was appointed Executive Manager People & Safety in August 2015.  Jonathan was most recently Group Manager, People and Safety with the Hunter Water Corporation. Prior to that, Jonathan was employed by Raytheon Australia and Thiess as a HR Manager. 

    He holds an Honours degree in Economics and has a number of post graduate qualifications.

  7. Lauren Eyles

    Lauren Eyles

    Executive Manager Communication

    Lauren's responsibilities include internal and external communication strategy and activities, media and stakeholder relations, customer service, event management and sponsorship.

    Prior to joining Port of Newcastle in May 2014, Lauren led communication for Newcastle Port Corporation.

    Her previous experience includes marketing and grants management of the £321M redevelopment of Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in the United Kingdom, and leading communication for the Hunter Medical Research Institute. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Communication Studies) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
